That Could Have Been Worse...We talked... This week had many interesting topics covered and questions answered or asked. We talked about the movies Documented and White People. We discussed what others first thought about another just by looking at them and our social location. We talked about quotes and how it made us feel or think. I emphasized "we talked" because this week there was a lot of discussion about things that could have went south. Wether someone held back their opinion or stated one and no one rebutted, the conversations and atmosphere about uncomfortable topics remained calm. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UniNteiDdEHqYQ_VjuRH1A8e-hGRURkE/view Watching the film  Documented   (link within name), I took in some information that was quite challenging or intersting for me to hear. Some information I heard was that President Obama deported more than 2 million immigrants, more than any other president, Jose is Gay (although this one wasn't all that

Which Way Home

HEY! Did you guys cry as hard I did watching the movie: "Which Way Home"?  https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LzMPn3wMINWzVHN_vxcdIyrir8pXv_-J/view           Which Way Home (link within name): The documentary was about migrants using a train to get to and cross the border of the U.S. The focus of the documentary were on the male children (ages 9-18) and their journey. The viewers were able to see what it was like for the children to be on the train and the view points from them. Viewers got to see a different perspective on what it was like for migrants to travel to the U.S. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LzMPn3wMINWzVHN_vxcdIyrir8pXv_-J/view           Personally, I never would have imagined that adults, let alone kids, would travel by freight trains and cross a dessert to reach the border of the U.S. I didn't know that smugglers would rape the kids or women who they are trying to smuggle in. The methods of smuggling are very creative and dangerous. Peopl

Hello fellow classmates!...and Taylor, just "Hi" to you 💬 * (LOL, I am playing. I just found out that you are the one grading our posts) 😁😆 I just figured out about the emoji thing too^ I don't know about you guys, but this week went by kind of fast. It may be because we did't get to finish up our assignments the two days we were there. Regardless of what it may have been, our class dissuasion focused mainly on fixed/ growth mindset and academic integrity. I personally enjoyed learning about the fixed and growth mindset portion of the tasks given. There were two videos that really spoke to me: Growth Mindset Introduction: What it is, How it Works, Why it Matters and Neuroplasticity (links within titles). Most people would like to believe that they have a growth mindset because having a fixed one may be seen as ignorant in a way. For instance, if a person were to avoid a math class because they may want to take the test at a later time, another p

Speech on Campus and Beyond

Hey! I know I know I know, more reading right? This week we had a bit of an interruption because of our visitor Dorian, a hurricane, who caused us to have a week out of classes. Due to this matter we weren't able to have in class discussions, but we did have PLENTY of reading to keep us busy. The readings consisted of topics that touched on speech and communication. Somethings are New, Others aren't Implemented... https://randyheller.com/tag/proactive-listening/ Communication, what exactly does it take to have proper communication skills? Is it something that's limited to answering a formal phone call or to writing a formal paper? We all know that there's more to communication than pen and paper or answering a phone call that maybe a interview. In 12 Essential Communication Skills That Aren't Taught in Schools at All (link within title) readers can observe that there are some additional skills needed for properly communicating with another person,
